When contractor bulk coil roofing nails actually save you money
The math of single coils versus cases
If your crew shoots more than a few squares a week, single coils stop making sense fast. Buying by the case (typically 4,800 or 7,200 nails) drops your per nail cost by 15 to 25 percent and means one fewer trip to the supply house each week.
Every SKU on this page is a contractor pack carton. Same Jaaco, Bostitch, and Grex coils we sell in single quantities, just at production crew pricing.
Storage matters more than people think
Coil nails sitting in a humid garage will start showing surface rust within a few weeks, even galvanized. Store cases somewhere dry, off the concrete floor on a pallet, and rotate stock first in first out.
A 7,200 count case will typically hold its finish for two years or more stored properly. A case that sat through a wet winter on a basement floor may not even make it to the next season.
Right sized truck stock for bulk coil roofing nails
For a typical residential re-roof of 25 to 30 squares, plan on one case (7,200 ct) of 1-1/4 inch hot-dipped galvanized for the field, one carton of 1-3/4 inch if you are going over an existing layer, a case of cap nails for the underlayment, and a handful of single coils of stainless for valley flashing and any cedar repair.
Most production crews live with two sizes on the truck: 1-1/4 inch for new roof work and 1-3/4 inch for tear-overs and thicker decking. Add a sleeve of stainless for cedar and coastal repairs and you cover 95 percent of residential calls.
Frequently asked questions
- How many roofing squares does a 7,200-count case cover?
- At the standard 320 nails per square (four-nail pattern), one 7,200-count case covers about 22 squares. At the high-wind six-nail pattern (480 nails per square), figure roughly 15 squares per case. Buy a case for any project over a few squares and you'll save real money over single coils.
- Do bulk cases ship from in-stock inventory?
- Yes. Every bulk SKU on this page ships from our warehouse. Most orders go out same or next business day. If you need a pallet quantity (40+ cases) we can quote freight directly; contact us for a quote.
- What's the actual savings vs single coils?
- Bulk pricing typically runs 15 to 25 percent under single-coil retail per nail. The exact discount depends on size and coating. Premium 316 stainless shows the biggest spread, basic electro-galvanized the smallest.
- Can I mix sizes in one bulk order for a quantity discount?
- Yes. Most of our pricing tiers are based on total order value, not a single SKU. Order three cases of 1-1/4" hot-dipped and a case of 1-3/4" stainless and you'll see the bulk pricing apply across all four lines.
